FLIR Recon M18 w/IR laser 640x480 Thermal Monocular System 4X (TIMNRM1864IR)
FLIR Recon M18 w/IR Laser 640x480 Thermal Monocular System 4X (TIMNRM1864IR)
Thermal Night Vision Devices allow operators to more easily detect people, animals, and any other heat-producing objects in the environment at night or during the day. Thermal technology sees heat, causing these objects to readily stand out against the environment backdrop. The high contrast image allows threats to quickly stand out from otherwise camouflaged positions, increasing operator safety.
The FLIR Recon M18 is a small, lightweight thermal monocular developed for professionals and designed to stand up to battlefield abuse. The M18 is manufactured completely by FLIR’s Government Systems Division and is MILSPEC. However, it is available for sale to the commercial market and law enforcement. The M18 is slightly larger than an AN/PVS-14 and easily stores in a pocket or pouch. It features objective and diopter focus, providing the user with the clearest possible image. The M18 is a full-featured device and includes several built-in imaging modes, an optional visible or infrared (government only) laser, and video out capability. It is available in either NTSC or PAL video format.
The Recon M18 has easy to navigate controls with a rear-mounted, thumb-activated joystick that allows users to choose options from on-screen menus. The menus are clearly divided and easy to differentiate. The power switch is separate from the joystick controls and is in the form of a rotating switch that click into position. This helps to eliminate accidental activation that can occur with other devices that rely on pressing buttons to turn the unit on or off.
The Recon M18 features the standard white hot/black hot polarity modes. But, it also has the ability to show images in full color using several palette options.
Gray (Grayscale) Palette provides maximum contrast on targets against a uniform background using black and white shades.
Iron Palette provides a color scale that goes from dark red through yellow to white to represent increasing temperatures.
Rain (Rainbow) Palette uses all the colors of the rainbow from red through green, blue, and yellow to violet to represent increasing temperatures.
Ice (Fire & Ice) Palette displays blue for cold targets and red for hot targets.
The various palette modes allow operators to choose the best image for their particular task. This increases effectiveness in various environments such as urban, wooded, jungle, desert, and maritime. The M18 has the option for an on-board laser. The laser can be either visible or infrared (restricted to government sales). This option gives the operator the ability to better communicate with team members who are not equipped with the superior detection capability of a thermal optic. Team members using standard image intensifier night vision may not be able to detect certain threats due to the camouflage of their surroundings. The operator with the M18 can spot these threats through foliage, smoke, fog, and inclement weather, and point out positions of possible threats using the covert infrared laser (only visible through night vision devices) or the visible laser. This increases team safety exponentially.
This version of the FLIR Recon M18 is equipped with a MILSPEC hardened thermal core that generates a 640×480 hi resolution image. The higher resolution produces a smoother image and still gives the operator good resolution when the electronic zoom feature is engaged.
Export of Thermal Imaging Equipment or related accessories (such as manuals) is strictly regulated by the US Department of State in accordance with the guidelines of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). It is a major crime to ship or carry US manufactured thermal imaging devices outside the borders of the United States, punishable by fines and prison sentences. Ignorance of these regulations will not hold up in court. By purchasing thermal imaging equipment from TNVC, you attest that you will not attempt to export or carry this thermal imaging equipment outside the borders of the United States. Also, it illegal to allow a non-US Citizen to look through US Thermal Imaging Equipment, even on US soil. Again, this is a crime punishable by fines and prison sentences.
